Course Purpose
To give the students an awareness of what is involved in making commercial quality movies and the roles and opportunities in production, distribution and presentation.

Course Sessions
There are four 2-hour course sessions. Each session covers three areas:

• Jobs in Movie Making
• A major technical aspect, e.g. scripts, camcorder work, editing, animation, sound
• Practical work

Movie Industry Jobs
"I WANT TO BE A DIRECTOR..." OK. But there are other openings we describe:-

Creative Jobs:- writers, researchers, journalists, directors, producers, editors, etc.
Performers:- Up front: actors, comedians, newsreaders, singers, dancers, stunts, etc.
Craft Jobs:- camera, art & design, sound, lighting, dress, make-up, scenery, etc.
Technical Jobs:- equipment and software engineers, technicians, electricians, etc.
Administrative and Management Jobs:- Managing stations, production companies, distribution companies, facilities, agencies, etc. and include managers, controllers, schedulers, commissioning (strand) editors, accountants, legal advisers, publicity/promotion, sales, secretaries, payroll, etc.

Course Tutors
To give students a wide range of experience the course uses four lecturers:

• Victoria Hayford who has experience in the area of Commissioning programmes for Channel 4 and who will be covering "Scripting".
• Paul Clarke who is an Amateur Movie Maker and who will be briefly covering the basics of camcorder work and simple digital editing
• Pearl Nuworgah who is a final year Student at Luton University, runs the Kidz 'n' Computers Animation Workshops who will be covering Animation and Titling
• Gary McDonald who is a freelance photographer and video maker. Gary will be covering the important topic of sound recording.
