Annual Report for 2008-9

By the Chairman, Scott Bailey

Introduction

During the year, we have continued to benefit from the free use of rooms for our weekly "networking" meetings in the Hat Factory, together with free courses run by Headstart. We continued running our club competitions/shows at the Hat Factory.

Membership

The number of registered members is 7, although, with visitors and students, we often get more than this at meetings. The membership fee is £12.50.

Activities

A Programme of events and activities was drawn up and meetings were held weekly throughout the year. The main activities included:

Achievements

This year we entered three teams in the IAC Regional Triangle Competition 2009. All three teams got knocked out in the first round but we got one film through to the Sidney Manasseh Trophy: "From Curry to Worry" by Aliakbar Campwala and one film through to the Leslie Gillham Shield, "10:11 Train" by Tim Mason.

The LMM Library/Archive of films about Luton has grown, with about 160 of the new films being shot in High Definition Video (HDV1080i). Copies are now available for the public on DVD.

We put on shows for three more feature films made by club members. The attendance at these was poor:-

1) Scott Bailey released the second version of his feature film "Warriors of Hastings".

2) Dapo Owolabi has released his religious drama film "Divine Solution". The script of this has been published as a book for groups who wish to do their own performances or make films.

3) Aliakbar Campwala released his feature film "Ali Baba and the Forty Sales".

Frank McPartland released his second documentary film "The Story of Dunstable and Houghton Regis".

Scott Bailey released a new comedy / effects film, made with members of the club entitled "Mad World".

We profitably put on filmshows for local history groups at Caddington and Harlington.

The Future

Frank McPartland has started work on a new documentary film about Bedford. We look forward to a busy year and hope to improve all round.
